“Look Mommy, a shark!”

My daughter loves to play pretend, and she has the best imagination. Some nights when she is getting ready for bed she will look up at her ceiling and say “Mommy! Look at the fishies!” And suddenly we are in an imaginary world full of pink and purple fish, mermaids, and of course sharks. She shrieks, jumps into my arms, and hides under the blankets until she has decided that the shark is gone.
One of the greatest gifts of parenthood is getting to watch my kids grow and learn and play. I know with time I may forget these little moments- the way she says “lellow” instead of yellow, or how she sings along to princess songs in the car but gets all the words wrong. I know that while some days are full of more meltdowns and tears than giggles, it is all fleeting and terribly temporary. So for now we will play pretend, and run from the dinosaurs, put on our princess dresses, and soak up every single second of cuddles and laughter.
